The volunteer's role
This placement is one of two working directly to support the implementation of IYF’s (International Youth Foundation) YouthActionNet institute in Peru, Premio Protagonistas del Cambio, with support to eight social ventures in skills related to the development of their businesses. This will be done through the local partner; Universidad Peruana de las Ciencias.
Cuso envisages a growth of this partnership and of our work within the field of Impact Investment and this pilot is a crucial first step in both regards.
Following research carried out into the specific needs of the social ventures to achieve sustainability and for growth three main areas have been identified: Business planning, Financial planning and Communications and marketing. Two volunteers will be deployed simultaneously, one to build capacity in business and financial planning and the other to develop marketing and visibility of the ventures.

Specific Objectives: 
To provide tailored marketing and communications support for increased business sustainability and viability for eight social ventures currently founded and led by young social entrepreneurs in the Premio Protagonistas del Cambio program a institute of the International Youth Foundation’s YouthActionNet Initiative.

• Perform capacity and needs analysis of the eight social ventures with regards to marketing, communications and visibility
• Provide tailored field training programs to the individual ventures based on needs.
• Perform joint training workshops in areas relevant to all the ventures
• Take part in regular monitoring and evaluation meetings to gauge progress


Skills and Qualifications: 
Essential Academic Qualifications:

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in marketing, promotion and communications
• Experience in training and / or mentoring

Essential Professional Background/Competencies:
• Self-motivated and able to plan and execute work schedules responsibly and under own initiative
• Able to balance complex workloads to ensure that all eight ventures receive adequate attention and support
• Confident and able to communicate subject matters using simple language and explanations.
• Able to transfer knowledge to the business context within Lima

Desirable Professional Background/Competencies:
• Experience in a Latin American country
• Understanding of small business management and their specific marketing needs

Training and financial support
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad. This includes:
• Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs)
• Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training
• Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency)
• Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and comprehensive health insurance
• Accommodation while overseas
• A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
• Quarterly payments to support you in your placement
• Modest support for accompanying partners
• For placements requiring Spanish language, substantive in-country language training is provided for those who already have intermediate knowledge
